Today I sit here with my husband drinking our morning coffee waiting for a propane tanker to come to our house to fix an issue. We just had our propane tank filled a couple weeks ago, and it was about that time that a horrible smell began to permeate our house. We thought it was a dead animal...the smell would not go away, and we couldn't find the source. I started getting really sick to my stomach and head. It even put me down for the count for three whole days...and I didn't start feeling better at all until the smell was gone a day or so ago. The other day, I noticed my kitchen stove was not working. All I could think was... well that's just great, we have this awful smell and now we'll have to buy a new stove...Then with the dip in temperature again, my sons told me yesterday that they froze because our propane heater wasn't working. Again all I could think was...are you kidding me!?! This can't even be possible. We're going to have to buy a propane heater too!?! Then I put two and two together and decided to go out and check the propane tank that we had just had filled. Sure enough, it was on E..below E actually. Ugghhh...that meant that the smell that made me sick for over a week, the apparent broken stove...and the apparent broken heater all was tied to the real source of the problem - a leak in our propane tank. Until we fixed that leak, nothing else would be fixable.
I've come to realize that so many times we will be so stressed out. Things will happen all around us, and it will feel as if we are being completely bombarded. We'll try to fix each little issue that is overwhelming but never really get to the actual source of the problem. It is when we find the source and fix it that we'll recognize everything else we were bombarded with was tied to that source. The Bible says in Ephesians 6:12, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." ...and that we are to, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8.
When we are seemingly bombarded with things one right after another, we need to recognize what it is, get to the source and fix it... How do we do this? We read the Word, we pray the Word, and we speak the Word right to the source. When we do this, the enemy that is seeking to take us down will have no choice but to flee.
